One Saturday, we were “just looking” at Michaels when a shimmer of color stopped her in the aisle — a new material called Friendly Plastic. She’d never seen it before, but the jewel-tone strips glowed like joy in a package. She asked an employee how to use it, bought a few, and that evening melted them on the stove.
As the plastic softened, so did her stress. The quiet rhythm of creating gave her back her breath — and, for the first time in months, a full night’s sleep.
That single spark of curiosity became the seed of Sherika Originals.
Our First “Collection”: 50¢ Penny Earrings
Our very first sales table wasn’t in a boutique — it was at the local flea market.
We brought our newest handmade earrings and a bowl of our shiniest, cleanest pennies that we'd turned into earrings by gluing studs on the back and priced at 50 cents a pair.
People smiled, laughed, swapped stories, and bought them for friends. Those tiny copper circles paid for our next batch of supplies — and taught us our first lesson:
Start simple. Sell honestly. Let joy do the marketing.
From Stress to Style
As Sherry’s confidence returned, she wore her creations to work. Compliments poured in. Orders followed. Craft shows came next along with long evenings of molding friendly plastic, designing with fabric, and stringing beads at the kitchen table.
